distance；　which　made　them　start　and　pause。　

　　　　It　　was　　　a　loud　　　shouting；　　　mingled　　　with　　　boisterous　　　acclamations；　

that　　rent　　the　　　very　　air。　　　It　　drew　　　nearer　　　and　　　nearer　　　every　　　moment；
